I’ve had a life-long fascination with ancient myths. And although many scholars dismiss these stories as fanciful, I believe they contain kernels of truth handed down to us from higher ages. This month, I started reading Joseph Campbell’s book, The Hero with a Thousand Faces which led to this issue’s articles on “Learning from a Sage” and “Attributes of a Spiritual Hero.”
And what is the heroine’s journey? Overcoming obstacles and acquiring the treasure. That’s what makes her a heroine.
For us on the spiritual path in this day and age, the obstacles and treasures are more inner than outer. We must be very strong in ourselves to overcome all harmful tendencies—anger, fear, or whatever else holds us back spiritually.
How do we do that? For some ideas and guidance, read my article, “Top 10 Obstacles on the Spiritual Path and How To Transcend Them.”
I’m also reading about even older myths regarding the status of women and the divine feminine. Long ago, before the patriarchal religions seized power, the Goddess was honored and worshiped as the supreme deity. I believe she was much more than the primitive fertility symbol scholars make out. The Goddess had many names and forms throughout the millennia, but it’s all one Goddess—the Great Goddess, the Creator and Mother of the Universe.
This issue’s cover features a beautiful painting of the Goddess Lada as a mighty loving guardian and protective spirit upon the Earth, sorely needed.
We live in extremely challenging times. But with the difficulties, come huge opportunities for growth on all levels.
You are all spiritual heroines to even attempt it.
May the Great Goddess bless you with her love, light and joy,
