Kamala’s Musings

What we get out of life, how happy and fulfilled we feel, depends more than we might imagine on what we give to life, what kind of energy we put into everything we do.

The modern word everybody’s talking about these days is “Mindset.” Change your mindset and everything will be honky-dory. But I don’t much like this word for two reasons: First, it emphasizes the mind and ignores the heart and behavior. Second, “set” implies a certain fixity. It reminds me of “set in her ways.” Changing your mind isn’t enough. You also have to change your behavior. The “manifesting” stuff isn’t exactly wrong, but it’s incomplete. You actually have to do some work to make your dreams come true.

I prefer the classic word, “attitude.”

And in this issue, we’re going to talk about the meaning of “attitude,” and about some attitudes that accelerate our spiritual growth and other attitudes that sabotage our efforts. Then we offer some tips for working with our attitudes.

To start, here’s the most helpful tip I’ve ever tried:

I had to squeeze hundreds of lemons once. Now this could have been a tedious, boring task. But I gave it everything I had and ended up enjoying it. Whatever the day brings you, try to approach it with an eager, positive attitude, and you’ll find that life becomes filled with endless opportunities for joy.

May you bring enthusiasm to even the simplest task that lies before you today, and may you learn how to turn all your lemons into lemonade,
